About

Welcome From the Head of School

When I first entered Sheridan, I immediately felt enveloped by a sense of welcoming, warmth, and openness. It is clear that this is a place where connection and curiosity are present in every interaction, and have been at the heart of our school since its founding almost a hundred years ago. The joy, challenge, and connectedness that students feel in their learning is palpable. Whether in the city, or at our Mountain Campus, students challenge themselves in ways that lead them to develop trust in themselves and in each other. At Sheridan, empathy and kindness are central to our mission. Our community is a brave place where children develop confidence in themselves, stand courageously for what they believe, and take on creative and intellectual challenges.

Sheridan School is a diverse, joyful, and welcoming community. We place children at the center of all we do. We often say that we believe that learning is empowerment, and everything we do here is thoughtfully designed to give our students the opportunity to develop an authentic desire to learn, to frame questions, to seek answers, to lead, to explore, and to create. We as progressive educators know that learning is an active, social process through which students construct knowledge and meaning from what they know -- and they know a lot!

At Sheridan, we recognize the knowledge, interests, passions that students bring with them. It is our job to honor their curiosity and sustain their sense of wonder throughout their lives. The Sheridan journey is vibrant, joyful and enriching, and I am delighted to share our school with you.
